Blue confetti filled the air and excitement ran high as it was announced that St. Thomas More School had been awarded Blue Ribbon designation by the U.S. Department of Education. Affectionately known as “St. Tom’s” by many, the school was one of only 356 schools recognized nationwide this year. Of those, 40 were non-public institutions.
The Blue Ribbon program offers recognition across various categories, and St. Thomas More School was honored in the “Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing” category. With 546 students, the school is celebrating its 75th year as an educational institution in Munster. Beaming students and proud faculty packed the gymnasium, later heading outside to take photos as trucks and cars honked in congratulations.

“It makes me very proud. I went here, my son went here, and these students have achieved so much. That means everyone in our school community grew. We met them where they were and helped them all rise,” said Principal Dr. Samantha Francis. “I couldn’t be prouder of these students and teachers. We’re leaving Father Mike with a beautiful legacy for his last few years here at St. Thomas More.”
St. Thomas More is the second school in Munster to receive a Blue Ribbon designation in recent years. Eads Elementary earned the recognition in 2022. These accolades highlight the strength and vibrancy of both public and private educational institutions in the Town of Munster.
