Humane Indiana Hosts Empty the Shelter Weekend, Asks Governor Holcomb to Veto HB 1412

If one thing Munsterites can agree on, it’s that we love our pets. Residents help each other to find lost pets and pour out support for their local shelter when needed. This weekend provides another opportunity to support the shelter, support the animals and possibly get a furry new member for your family as well.

Humane Indiana will host their Empty the Shelter Weekend on March 2nd & 3rd with the goal of drawing attention to the challenges faced by local shelters and to urge Governor Eric Holcomb to veto HB 1412. The shelter will be waiving fees on the adoption of all qualifying adult animals. Anyone interested in adopting an animal should visit the shelter and see the deserving pets that need a home or visit to offer their support to the valuable institution.

Humane Indiana stated that vetoing HB 1412 is crucial to safeguarding the welfare of Indiana’s pets, families and the tireless individuals working towards creating a more humane state. The Empty the Shelter Weekend is intended to serve as a reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by shelters and the necessity for responsible legislation aligned with Governor Holcomb’s commitment to animal welfare. “We really want to show how important supporting Hoosier shelters is to the community and to Indiana legislators,” stated Jessica Petalas of Humane Indiana. “The passing of HB 1412 comes at a devastating time when shelters are all full and the need for these adoption events is paramount to simply keeping up with our community needs.”
