Humane Indiana Hopes to Clear the Shelters This Weekend

Humane Indiana will once again join NBCUniversal Local’s nationwide Clear the Shelters campaign, opening its doors to families hoping to adopt a new companion. The event will take place on Saturday, August 23, and Sunday, August 24, at the Humane Indiana Shelter & Adoption Center, located at 421 45th Street in Munster.

Now in its 11th year, Clear the Shelters is a collaboration between NBC and Telemundo stations and animal shelters across the country. The initiative has already helped nearly 1.2 million pets find new homes while raising more than $5 million to support shelters and rescues.

For Humane Indiana, the event is an opportunity to connect adoptable pets with families eager to welcome them. “Clear the Shelters is more than just a weekend of adoptions; it’s a chance for our animals to find the forever families they’ve been waiting for,” said Jessica Petalas, Senior Director of Shelter & Clinic Operations. “Every kennel we empty means more space is made to save another life, and we’re inviting the entire community to be a part of this lifesaving mission.”

The Munster adoption event will feature reduced fees on dozens of pets available for same-day adoption. Saturday, August 23, will also include food trucks, donation opportunities, visits with Humane Indiana’s mascot “Cal,” and booths hosted by local animal service organizations.

Humane Indiana encourages the community to stop by, meet the pets, and learn more about the organization’s work in animal care and welfare.
