August events in Munster promote community and pride (with video)

Two community events helped bring the summer break to a close this month. Munster’s National Night Out has become a beloved tradition, earning recognition from both residents and national organizations. Held on August 5, the event drew more than 150 organizations and businesses eager to connect with the community.

Sergeant James Ghrist coordinates the event to ensure it provides something for everyone. “This year’s National Night Out Celebration was our largest one ever and continues to grow thanks to great support and participation from our community,” Ghrist stated. “This event really involves every aspect of our town from residents, businesses, faith-based organizations, community organizations, school groups and clubs, first responders, scout groups, and many town employees who helped with support efforts. We appreciate everyone, especially our Choice Community Council planning committee and many generous sponsors, who helped to make this year’s event our best one yet.”

A newer tradition also returned for its second year this month. Cruisin’ the Ridge brought car enthusiasts and neighbors together to stroll Ridge Road and admire classics dating as far back as 1923, while enjoying ice cream, local food, and live music. More than 75 proud owners showcased their vehicles on a picture-perfect Saturday afternoon.

“This event is truly serving its purpose by bringing new faces to the businesses along Ridge,” Anthony Christopher, one of the event’s organizers said. “There’s been a lot of discussion about what can be done on this side of town. In my opinion, this proves that we don’t have to wait for major infrastructure projects to promote a vibrant part of Munster. We can start making a difference right now.”

Munster residents now look forward to both August events each year, with hopes that these gatherings will continue to grow. Together, they highlight the spirit of community that makes summer in Munster special. Check out the video recaps of the events below. You’ll be glad you did.
